Why do people believe everything they hear? “Year 2012″?

Sony has made a movie website called instituteforhumancontinuity(dot)org and people believe it to be real without even checking to see if it is by doing a small amount of research. I just saw the bogus “commercial” today and at the end of it, I saw THIS MOVIE NOT YET RATED on the bottom. I went online to check out some more info or watch the “commercial” again because the movie interests me and I see a few people asking if it’s real and some people think it is. There are websites that state Sony has created it. It took me a total of 5 minutes to find websites that state this. Why don’t people do the same? Do they have an that much of an abated cerebral capacity?
