2012 end of the world?

Can someone explain to me this whole end of world thing? i Dont want to know if you think its all bull shat but i just want to know some facts about it. I know that it's the end of the Mayan calendar but…like, why doesnt the calendar continue? whats going to happen to the world? will it blow up? or will people just drop dead???? Im just curious.

If this budget is in any way justified by the threat, why hold the Olympics at all?
