The Ubvric Rosetta Stone Prophecies

Archeology and anthropology are described by many scholars as two sciences working in tandem, as brother and sister, to unlock the mysteries of the past.

In 1936, scientists working in a shallow cavern, known as the Cave of Lachenal, located near the Annapurna Sanctuary on the Nepalese approach to Annapurna I, discovered a tablet made of a terracotta like material, common on the Asian continent.

The Cave of Lachenal, covered with ice and snow for most of the year, faces Annapurna I. Annapurna, the Goddess of the Harvest, the fertile one, the bearer of that which is fruitful to man.

So named the Ubvric Rosetta Stone, the tablet bears writing in an ancient form of Devnagari. This is the language spoken by the Sherpas of Nepal. Today, the Sherpas speak a form of Devnagari significantly changed from that which appears on the Ubvric. However, that is to be expected, since the Stone is at least 1,000 years old and probably, scientists say, much much older.

Like the Book of Revelation, the Ubvric speaks of the end of times, and, bears at least one reference to the son of David and Bethlehem, unusual, considering it is unlikely the residents of Nepal had much contact during the first century A.D. with the peoples of the Eastern Mediterranean Roman territories.

The Ubvric has so far resisted carbon dating methods. Several universities have attempted such dating. The readings have varied from 1,000 to 25,000,000 years, the latter clearly inconsistent with the substance of the writings upon the stone itself, or anything we know of relative to man.

The Ubvric is a fourth source (counting Revelation, Nostradamus, and the Mayan Calendar) attributing event(s) of planetary proportions that will take place in December of 2012.

The Ubvric speaks only in general terms regarding the end of man’s dominance upon the Earth, not to a specific day as the Mayan Calendar references do.

There are many predictions on the Ubvric, among them, as with Nostradamus, the Napoleonic Wars, the rise of Adolf Hitler, and the two world wars of the 20th century.

There are also seven prophecies relating to the years immediately prior to the end of the world as we know it, again, to occur in December of 2012.

The Mayan Calendar has left us with a profound mystery. Academia, science and the clergy have labored long over the question as to why the calendar was extrapolated into the 21st century and why, on December 21st, 2012, it abruptly ends?

Novelists are taking up the torch as speculation increases and theories abound. From the field of science, the observation is purely clinical. On, or about December 21st of 2012, a celestial event will occur that only transpires every 26,000 years: the galaxy will be in total alignment. This may have dire consequences for our weather, and might drastically induce earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis. No one really knows. It’s safe to say the planet has endured previous upheavals and will probably endure once more. As for the impact on population, again, no one can be certain. In any event, science maintains the Mayan Calendar is based on this 26,000 year cycle and will simply rewind to its beginning.

Academia has remained outside the argument but confesses to the problem as “interesting.” On the other hand, religion has offered some stunning hypotheses that range from the very grim to the quintessential era for mankind.

The Bible points to a war of good and evil preceding the “end of days.” The followers of Christ will do battle with the legions of Satan. The victor will seize Earth and all its inhabitants.

A more optimistic rendering is that mankind will enter the seventh day of creation, or the “Sabbath Rest.” This theory is founded on the notion that “God created the heavens and the Earth in six days and rested on the seventh day.” Theologists maintain that “God’s day” is, in fact, 26,000 of our years. To compute that even six of God’s days does not equal the life of our planet is to blindly assume that the Almighty worked his magic on consecutive days. With the impending advent of this cycle on December 21st, 2012, a belief is held that we will be entering this seventh day. This “day of rest”, or “Sabbath Rest” will begin a season of peace for mankind. Evil and sickness will be deposed and Christ will return to lead his people. Many espouse the belief that the dead will return to take part in this heavenly reward.

With two plus years to ponder the situation, it will be “interesting” attempting to decide which debate will survive.

Does this early prophecy refer to a literal end times like some claim or rather to a transition in consciousness like many more are inclined to believe? Millions believe the world will end in 2012. A great many realize the world is swamped with ever more and bigger problems, many proving to be unsolvable. Is there hope for mankind past that date? The forecast of December 12, 2012 is based mostly on what is said to be the end-date of the Mayan Calendar, which is presented as lasting 5,125 years. Arguments supporting this date are drawn from a mixture of astronomical speculation, alternative interpretations of mythology, numerological constructions, and alleged prophecies by extraterrestrial beings.

There are many among the scientific community who believe that due to global warming, solar storms would be entering the Earth in large amounts by 2012 and this could trigger off a series of catastrophes. This is their opinion that the Mayan December 2012 Doomsday prediction would finally ruin all life on Earth. There are many geologists who believe that there might be major volcanic eruptions around the world in 2012. This is being equated with the December 2012 Doomsday prediction and being witnessed as one of the ways that the world will be destroyed, if it were to happen.

This will draw the end of the Piscean Age of secular materialism, and the true beginning of the Age of Aquarius, which will last for one thousand years. The idea is also prophesied in Revelations chapter 20 verses 1-3. The ancient Maya believed the Earths last day will be December 21, 2012. Native Americans, Egyptians, Chinese and others arrived at a common conclusion, each without a understanding of the other. The Maya claimed that the future end-time would comprise of the suns shift, a Venus transit and increasing earthquakes.

The reality is that no one is precisely sure when the anticipated events relevant to the Sun, an incoming planet that has hit the Earth before and the galaxy’s activity past other large bodies in the universe may happen. That these things may occur is not necessarily disputed. The current announcements about magnetic field changes around the sun and the Earth are part of this phenomenon.

Therefore, it is worth it for the seller to take the time and effort to find the policy directly so the structured settlement company doesn’t have to wait to get it from the insurance company. And the sooner the structured settlement factoring company gets the policy, the more accurate the documents and the less chance of error—and delay.

No, it isn't. The Mayan calendar doesn't end, only the current cycle ends. The Mayans made no predictions about it.

“Despite the publicity generated by the 2012 date, Susan Milbrath, curator of Latin American Art and Archaeology at the Florida Museum of Natural History, stated that “We [the archaeological community] have no record or knowledge that [the Maya] would think the world would come to an end” in 2012.
“For the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle,” says Sandra Noble, executive director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies, Inc. in Crystal River, Florida. To render December 21, 2012, as a doomsday or moment of cosmic shifting, she says, is “a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in.”
“There will be another cycle,” says E. Wyllys Andrews V, director of the Tulane University Middle American Research Institute (MARI). “We know the Maya thought there was one before this, and that implies they were comfortable with the idea of another one after this.”

Helping the Dying

I have had no experience with death and dying. My grandparents and a few other friends and relatives died in my lifetime but I was too young and not skillful enough to help them at the times of their deaths.

The content of this article has been sourced from the Tibetan book on Living and Dying by Sogyal Rinpoche. This is a modern classic and introduces the Tibetan Buddhist tradition in a way which can be applied in our modern, westernized world. A dying person at the time of death is in such a situation that he or she is leaving behind all that he has clung to and been familiar with all his life. Wealth, fame, prestige, family, friends, power all is being left behind. Rinpoche asks us to put ourselves in the place of the person who is dying at the time of death. He asks us to imagine ourselves on an ocean-liner or a journey to the unknown. You have no choice in the matter, the ship is already on its way out and our friends and family are on the shore to wish us goodbye. What would we want from our friends who had come to see us off in that situation? Remember you can never come back and that you have no choice – you have to leave. With a little use of the imagination we will be in a better position to help the person at the time of death and dying.

Sogyal Rinpoche gives a lot of important advice. I have attempted to summarize some important points in this article. For more detailed help please read his book.

1.At the time of death and dying give the person room to express her feelings.

Allow her to express any and all her feelings. The dying person feels fear, panic, grief, rage, in different proportions. By allowing her to express those feelings by empathizing with them we can offer immeasurable help.

2.Give the suffering person permission to die.

Rinpoche speaks of persons whom he had met or heard of who were approaching death and were dying. But they were burdened by their responsibilities, by the fact that their family depended on them.

Sogyal Rinpoche says that many dying persons refused to let go and suffered many weeks of suffering and agony. By giving such a person permission to die his family would make his passage much easier.

3.Establish trust and open communication; be yourself. Your job is to behave naturally and let the person open up. Use humor skillfully in such situations. This will establish better communication.

4.Do not interrupt, deny or diminish the person’s feelings. At the time of death the dying person needs to feel and express his feelings. This is the way he can be free of them and meet his end peacefully.

5.Do not intrude your spiritual beliefs. Do not try to convert or impose your spiritual beliefs on the dying person at the time of death. It will not help. On the other hand if the dying person expresses a wish to learn about your beliefs, do not hold back.

6.At the time of death the dying person may make you the target of his grief and rage. This is not unexpected. The person who is dying is in the deepest crisis of his life. Don’t take it personally if he takes out his feelings on you.

7.Do not expect too much of yourself. This is only so much that you can do. In the ultimate analysis people will die as they have lived. Do not expect miracles.

8.Technique to help you empathize. Rinpoche says that dying persons long to be touched, long to be treated as living persons and not as diseased. A great deal of consolation can be given to the very ill simply by touching their hands, looking into their eyes, gently massaging them, holding them in your arms or breathing in the same rhythm gently with them.

Rinpoche also describes 2 techniques for feelings and expressing unconditional love towards the dying at the time of death. Very often, due to past issues and sufferings, we may have feelings of guilt and anger towards the dying at the time of death. Rinpoche says that if you try to put yourself in the place of the dying person you will have a better idea of what the person needs and feels. You will then be in a position to accept the dying person unconditionally.

The Kingdom of God is like a grain of mustard seed which, when sown, grows into a big tree that produces shade and fruit for the birds. (Luke 13: 18-19)

To every man is given a measure of faith (Rom. 12: 3) If you have faith in God, everything you desire and declare out loud shall be done (Mark 11: 22 – 25) in the Name of the Lord. It pleases Him to give you the Kingdom.

The secret is to seek first the Kingdom of Heaven. That’s the key. If you are saved, then the Kingdom of heaven is within you! It is yours to take! The world does not know this and cannot comprehend it because it’s a spiritual truth.

But to you, Jesus says not to worry about what to eat and what to wear. After all, that’s what the world is worrying about. But, if you put Him first, He will provide you with blessings to overflowing. (Luke 12: 29 – 31)

Are you giving Him your firstfruits; i.e. your very best? In other words, do you praise Him, thank Him daily, forgive those who have hurt you, and freely and joyfully sow your tithes into His Kingdom?

When you give the best of your talents, your time, and the money which He provided in the first place, unconditionally, you will receive miracles. Then he will open the windows of heaven and pour out so many blessings that you won’t have room enough to receive them! (Malachi 3: 10)

You see, it all has to do with the seed time and harvest. The whole Law of God is based on that. It started in Genesis 1 when God spoke the Word into the earth and it came to pass. No heavenly seed can come your way unless you first plant your earthly seed. That law is firm, like the law of gravity. It cannot change, but will always do what it is purposed to do!

Do not confuse the world’s way of attracting riches with God’s way!

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.” (Isa. 56:

The rain comes down from heaven and does not return there, but stays to perform its purpose: to give seed to the sower. So also shall God’s Word not return to Him empty, but it shall accomplish what He pleases and purposed it for. (Isa. 56: 10 – 11)

He gives you the seed: your talents, the Word, His Holy Spirit, His Power working in you and guiding you in all things. As soon as you give back a portion of whatever it produces first, then He will multiply it.

It’s all about your treasure; not what God can or should give to you! “Where you treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Luke 12: 29 – 34) What you give to Him and speak in faith will not return empty to you. If mixed with faith and your love for Him, it will be received in heaven and returned plentifully!

Then the thorn, or lack and worry which has been pricking you so severely, will be replaced by a fir tree, planted by the Lord. And He will receive the glory for it because you will know it was not accomplished in your own strength!

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Mat. 11: 28 – 29)

Take heed, therefore, not to put God in a box and try to acquire riches or anything else through means that are not in His Word. You cannot be double-minded. That brings confusion.

If you need wisdom, ask and it shall be given freely. But, ask “in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.” (James 1: 5 – 7)

On December 21st, 2012, our planet will end a 26.000 year circle, and align directly with the center of the Universe, and the Sun. This galactic alignment also takes place on the traditional day of the pre-Christian ancient pagan Winter solstice. What are the possible effects of this alignment?

The Maya believed that events in the Universe influenced our daily cycle of life. Scientologists believe that on the day of the great alignment, an evil ruler from the planet Nibiru will descend with his forces, and enslave earth, after earth is battered and partially destroyed by meteoroids flung by a magnetic force by the great alignment. This will signify a new dark age for our planet.

Aside from viewing a completely different night sky, some people claim nothing will happen, except our fears will end, and we experience looking at a beautiful night sky.

5. Black Hole Alignment

One very real theory is that when earth does align, a gravitational effect between the Sun and the massive black hole at the center of our galaxy, Sgr A, will create havoc on our planet. This theory does coincide with the theory of mass extinctions recorded in our past, and perhaps even this force could completely destroy our planet.

Our planet because of a magnetic force created by this great alignment could be hit by thousands of meteoroids propelled from space. This would be the same effect as thousands of missile random attacks, leaving the survivors left in a battered and ruined World.

Perhaps we could discover the true origins of ourselves and our planet, and some religious people believe, “Angels will return from the heavens:, and the presence of God. Saving Earth after a great disaster, and bringing in a golden new age for all of us.

Whatever happens during this great alignment, we can only surmise that life after the 21st December 2012, could change forever. As we enter the new cosmic age of Aquarius, and as the Maya believed- a new beginning.

Is December 21 2012 going to be Doomsday 2012?

Well, yes and no …

Lord knows as this date approaches there will be the “end of the world” preachers and cults springing up all around the world. The media will surely get behind that with both feet running. Seems our society will do this with a passing comet or millennium change or even a new eclipse.

What we do know … The Mayan Calendar does not foretell the end of the world perse’. However it does foretell a negative prophecy in 2012, and an “end of times”, which the earth has seen several times as we know; civilizations have fallen, disease and plagues have changed nations. “Times” so to speak have always died out to be replaced with newer times.

Does that mean we are out of the woods completely? Well not exactly, and here is why. The Mayan calendar points to a time in the near future where something dramatic will happened to end the “times”. What do we know about that could possibly be this transforming experience? An experience so dramatic that it could change the way we live on the earth? Solar flares- that exceed the size and duration of any in recorded history. This is not just simply a guess, or prophesy of any kind.

Our sun has a solar cycle of 11 years at which time it produces sun spots. It is believed this happens due to a relationship between the sun and Jupiter. Both the sun and Jupiter (the largest planet in our solar system) actually wobble in their positions. We believe the Sun remains still but it actually wobbles millions of miles due to the gravitational relationship between its self and Jupiter. This sort of shakes the mass of the sun which in turn causes solar flairs at the time of the sun spots every 11 years.

In 2012 this wobbling well be directly on its cycle to produce these solar flairs. Thats not all …

Our solar system (Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) are like a disk of sorts as we all know. Well this tiny disk compared to the galaxy is usually just above the flat edge of the larger disk that is the Milky way. Our solar system orbits in the Milky way as due the planets around the sun. In 2012, our disk will be moving from the top of the Milky way disk and into the center. Picture a round pizza (Milky way) and we are one pepperoni. We usually sit on the top just like the pepperoni. However in 2012 the pepperoni will move inside the crust of the pizza. Our solar system will move into the center of the Milky way as it does every 21,000 years. At this time our solar system will be in complete alignment with all the gravitational forces of the Milky way on one horizontal plane. This will exert tremendous forces on our solar system. This will coincide with the normal 11 year cycle of the sun and its solar flares. Furthermore, the sun’s magnetic polar axis is due to shift again in 2012 on its normal cycle.

The facts are in and the truth is in 2012 we will be in danger of extreme solar flare activity that could potentially knock out all electrical systems on earth. It just depends on how strong these flares will be, something that no one really knows at this time.

Its kind of like living near a swollen river. You know there is a large storm coming but you don’t know how large the storm will be. You know you will be in danger of flooding to some extent, but you just don’t know how much yet. Honestly, this is the situation that we will face in 2012, maybe even sooner.

I try to keep in mind that every since I was a small kid, someone somewhere has foretold of the “end times”. I personally don’t believe in that sort of mythology. But the truth is the planet has taken extreme abuses in history be that of asteroids or ice ages that are just a part of living in the physical world; as are solar flares.

A small solar flare in March of 1989 destroyed some power grids in North America. This solar cycle which begins in 2012 will be at the same time as our solar system moves into the center of the disk of the Milky way. The importance of that is that we will suddenly be susceptible to extreme gravitational forces from the galaxy its self, which will disrupt or aggravate the normal solar flare cycle.

It is certain we will experience disruptive solar flares that will almost certainly knock out some satellites. These flares could be strong enough to shut down power grids on a global scale. We just wont know until the time comes really. This is however something you should be aware of, and take any necessary precautions to be able to live without power for days to weeks. Power is something we take for granted, but what would you do if it were simply gone for weeks at a time?

2012 – Prophecy Or Hype?

Is it the beginning of a New Age form of ascension or a Doomsday Armageddon end? Heralded by some as the coming of a rebirth of a new consciousness and by others as the harbinger of chaos and death. Is it prophesy or hype?

Which is it? As the year 2012 approaches, the media will surely blow the trumpets of alarm. I remember the trumpets blaring with the coming of the year 2000, the turn of the century into a new millennium. Do you remember the Y2 frenzy?

The potential for a complete breakdown of civilization hung on our ability to reprogram all the computers of the world to accept four simple digits – 2000. Well, we did it. Is this new threat of the same kind? Can we fix it?

As you can guess this is different. Different because it is of no human man-made substance or hold in your hands data. It is the product of prophecy and of interpretation. It is different because it threatens not only our lifestyle, but also life itself.

If it is the coming of new consciousness, then it may only threaten our style of life, our daily comings and goings, our relationships with our families and neighbors. It may threaten our political behavior and our international behavior. I say threaten because a new consciousness implies a new way of thinking, an ascension of sorts. It implies change from the way we are now. Change is always a threat to us.

If it is doomsday that we face, then surely it threatens life itself. Those that see this future event as catastrophic, see it as a global event. They see it as an event that will shake the world, one that will affect all of humanity. That is certainly change. Could it be an event of annihilation, one that wipes out humanity? Some find such a prediction to be an insult to the Divine. Nevertheless, believers of many faiths and non-believers, as well, hold that somber belief in Armageddon.

The specific date that is the focus of this prophecy is December 21, 2012, the winter solstice. That year will be a leap year. In the United States, it is a presidential election year. There will be a summer Olympics in London. In that year, American military presence in the Republic of Korea will end.

Before we dismiss, these predictions of a new consciousness or total devastation we should take note that there are notable and respected scientists that are doing serious research and study of the Mayan predictions. Some scientists note that it is in the year 2012 that the Sun will emit intense solar activity that could have cataclysmic consequences for the earth.

Could it be that indeed both a new consciousness and catastrophic event will be the legacy of 2012? I would think that a worldwide catastrophic event would indeed elevate humanity’s consciousness. Mankind would be forced to ignore the mundane and pray for the divine.
Perhaps it is just another Y2 media phenomenon, but then again maybe not. Shouldn’t we learn what we can and prepare for the possibilities? Isn’t it better to be safe than sorry?

Shouldn’t we at least educate ourselves? Prepare for the possibilities. Why not be prepared and arm yourself with knowledge?

A new movie came out just in time for the holidays based on the end of the world happening in 2012. It’s another chance for Hollywood to make money by fixating on our fascination with the destruction of the world. The end of the world is a recurring theme in science fiction movies. The producers claim this movie is based on the Mayan calendar, which some interpreters say ends on December 21, 2012. Since the calendar ends, so must civilization. This is a strange concept. Everyone knows, when a calendar ends, you begin a new one. The Mayan Long Count calendar was created to track 5,000 years. Once it runs out, a new era will begin, but that doesn’t mean a major catastrophe is impending. In a lecture by a Mayan elder and when the audience was given the opportunity to ask questions, most of them focused on the possibility of the world ending in December of 2012. The Elder was very respectful in addressing the concerns about our future. His major point was people are trying to attach dates from The Gregorian calendar to a very different ancient Mayan method of recording time and there is no common comparison to match dates and years The Elder said too much attention is being paid to trying to predict the exact date of the end of the world. The Mayan Calendar is not a predictor of Doomsday or Armageddon.

In late December of 2012, a close conjunction of The Winter Solstice Sun with the center of The Milky Way Galaxy will occur. Again, some people are connecting this astronomical event to the Mayan calendar and predicting the end of the world. A well known astronomer says “The fact that the winter solstice on 2012 is “aligned” with the plane of the Galaxy has no significance. It takes the winter solstice 700-1400 years to cross the plane of the Galaxy. The solstice last year (referring to 2005) was within 0.1 degrees (or 1/5th the size of the Sun) of where it will be on 2012. The Sun crosses the plane of the Milky Way twice every year with no ill effect.”

If the world is going to end soon, there seems to be no way of exactly predicting when or how it will happen. Who knows? Planet earth may continue well beyond our lifetimes. Or all of us may be living on borrowed time, unaware of impending disaster. Whichever way things are going, we have no personal control over the outcome, although some will argue we can influence it. What we can do is live our lives in the best way possible and enjoy each moment. If the end of the world came today, would you be satisfied with the way you spent your life? If your answer is yes, many blessings to you on your continued life journey. If your answer is no, you can still make changes and live your life to the fullest.

Surviving 2012, Rules You Must Follow To Protect Your Family

Just picture this for a moment…It is now December 22nd 2012, the predictions have all come true and the world in in turmoil. You look back to 2010 and think “if only I had taken the precautions then maybe today my family and I would have coped better than we did.” If surviving 2012 is important to you then you must read on and follow some rules to protect your family.

Facing the unknown will not come easily to us and we have to let go of the traditional ways of protecting ourselves and think outside the box. A solid plan and quick reflexes will be required to survive the catastrophes we are told will occur.

A solid plan is needed to survive these catastrophes and there are certain places that you don’t want to be. Here are a few suggestions for you to consider if these 2012 predictions come to pass:

* The size of the community you live in
* The height of the surrounding buildings
* The ease of a swift evacuation. Will there be thousands all fleeing at the same time?
* Are there a lot of bridges in your area as they will collapse as fast as buildings.
* Mid sized or large cities are not the best places to be when you know disaster is coming.
* You and your survival supplies will be in grave danger when a catastrophe hits. Be prepared.
* Mass panic leads to chaos and the inability to leave quickly.
* The terrified populace will do anything to survive.
* Mob rule is prevalent in a catastrophe situation.
* People who have not prepared as well as you will instantly become your enemy.
* Martial law is highly possible during this time, which is never good.
* Crumbling buildings, traffic accidents, train derailments and more * And so much more that cannot be included in this one article…

It is imperative that we protect our own during these horrific times in order for us to survive and carry on the human race. I know there are many skeptics out there and they think 2012 is hogwash and that is fine. We are all entitled to our opinions and mine tends to be that 2012 is real and we should be prepared. Almost a fifth was wiped off the company's value less than a month after founder and Chief Executive Michael Spencer, who is also treasurer of Britain's opposition Conservative Party, sold more than half his personal stake and a family stake.

That sale, at 440 pence per share, raised 45.4 million pounds.

At 4:18 p.m., ICAP shares were down 19.7 percent at 293.3 pence after the broker said underlying full-year pretax profit would be 295 million to 315 million pounds.

That compared with a consensus of 320 million pounds, according to I/B/E/S forecast based on 13 analysts. The Thomson Reuters Starmine SmartEstimate average — which weights analysts' forecasts according to their track record — predicted 324.7 million pounds. In November ICAP said it expected profit to be between 311 million and 347 million.

The ICAP board decided to revise its guidance only late on Thursday in New York, Chief Operating Officer Mark Yallop told reporters. “We followed all clearly set-down practices for this (Spencer's) transaction to the letter. We have nothing to hide.”

The Financial Services Authority declined to comment on whether it would investigate Spencer's share sale.

The profit warning came as a shock, analysts said. Shares in rival broker Tullet Prebon fell by 8 percent.

“It's difficult to spot any positive news,” said Nitin Arora, an analyst at Noble Group.

ICAP has been aggressively adding businesses in new markets, in post-trade services and in new geographic areas as well as promoting its electronic trading platforms for new markets. The new businesses added revenue but not profits in the third quarter to end-December.

It said revenue was slightly ahead for the third quarter from a year ago, reflecting the new business segments coming on stream, which offset a decline in core voice brokerage revenues.

The company has invested 400 million pounds in new businesses over the past three years, including 300 million for acquisitions, said Matthew Lester, group finance director.

“Our investment in new businesses had mixed results,” the company said. Activity levels were severely reduced in shipping brokerage, while cost reductions would not come through in its new Brazilian business until next year, and lower market volumes held back growth of its cash equity business, it said.

ICAP said it had spent over 50 million pounds on these businesses in the year to date. This investment plus slowing activity in its core markets meant lower operating margins for the quarter, ICAP said.

A “diversification strategy is imperative for ICAP to keep its position as the leading global interdealer broker,” amid a sea of uncertainties on regulation, the economy and its rivals, said Axel Pierron, a senior analyst at consultancy Celent.

“It is quite difficult to predict which of ICAP's new businesses will eventually emerge as a major money-maker.”

E-BROKING DISAPPOINTS

The company said average daily electronic broking volumes on BrokerTec were up 6 percent in the quarter to $511 billion (327.3 billion pounds).

That compared with expectations of 10 percent growth, Arora said, highlighting it as another area of disappointment.

ICAP also announced an agreement to buy the nearly 62 percent of shares it did not already own in Stockholm-based TriOptima AB to enlarge its offering of derivatives post-trade processing services.

The company said it would make an initial payment of about 109 million euros in cash plus about 12 million euros towards working capital and two possible payments based on revenue and profit targets for the period to end-December 2012.

TriOptima acts as the repository for the interest rate swaps market and is a leader in compression, which helps banks reduce the number of outstanding credit default swaps contracts to reflect underlying net risk exposures, among other businesses.

It had gross assets of 36.5 million euros and reached a profit of almost 30 million euros in 2009, said ICAP, which first invested in TriOptima when it was founded in 2001.

Thomson Reuters has services that compete with ICAP products.

The Mayans:

The Ancient Mayans was a very intelligent society. They used the dun, moon and stars to create a very advanced calendar system. Unfortunately, that calendar ends in 2012.

We cannot know if this is just a coincidence, or if they really believed that, the world will end on December 2012.

Planet X:

Some scientist believes that a planet will hit Earth in year 2012. Planet X is quite a large planet and if it collides with our planet, the human race is history.

In all history, such a collision only happened once before; in the time of the Dinosaurs! For them it was fatal.

What Can We Do?

Whether you ‘believe’ in 2012 or not, you should start to think about survival and preparation. Make a survival bag (with all the basic survival stuff, like knifes, fishing hooks etc.), get lots of canned foods and make sure you know all there is to know about December 2012 (read books and learn about the different scenarios).

If there’s any truth to those ancient legends, you have precious little time left to make the most important wager of your life. Before dismissing this as new-age mumbo-jumbo, you’d best know exactly what’s at stake.

A few nights ago my wife, Arianne, asked why I am taking so seriously the myth about the winter solstice of 2012 marking the end of the world as we know it. Although I gave the question my best shot at the time, all I got in return was a quizzical look and a shrug. I then promised to pull my thoughts together and make this the subject of my next column.

December 21, 2012 is a date that has been literally set in stone – it is the last date chiseled into the Mayan calendar. It is spoken of in the legends of other traditions as well and, according to some recent material I have been reading, has been part of the arcane knowledge of civilizations stretching back to Atlantis and Lemuria. Apparently some ancient people were privy to knowledge that remains largely unavailable to the majority of us today – even though we are the ones destined to live through this remarkable date. As one who has followed this subject for a number of years, I can add that the level of “chatter” – to borrow a term from the CIA – seems to be increasing at an impressive rate. Some of the latest material to cross my desk stopped me dead in my tracks (see: http://www.llresearch.org/transcripts/issues/2005/2005_1219.htm).

Should we treat the predicted demise of our civilization with disdain or with riveted attention? This question would not be so challenging if the prophecies were backed by verifiable scientific process. Thanks to modern-day advances in our understanding of the Earth’s orbit, we can predict a total eclipse of the sun on November 13, 2012. We can even tell within seconds precisely when and where this event will occur. But when it comes to an event like the end of the world, science can’t help us; the forces in play have yet to be discovered by classical academia.

Thus on this matter we are left to our own devices. All of us must work out a response as best we can. However, if there is any truth to the story, our stance – the most wager we ultimately make – regarding this issue is arguably the most important of our life. As C. S. Lewis, the celebrated author of The Chronicles of Narnia, once said about his decision to embrace religion: “Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.”

There are several things to take into account before placing your bet. The first is to understand what is meant by “the end of the world.” It clearly does not mean the planet will be destroyed, for that would take away all options in a single stroke, and the entire issue would be moot. That’s not what the seers of the past were trying so hard to tell us. They were warning us of something entirely different – more like an abrupt shift in the direction of one’s life.

Just as today’s astronomers have a more expansive perspective on outer space than Galileo and Kepler did, so those throughout history who have been able to view earthly events from a cosmic point of view have had a broader understanding than most of us of the narrative of our planet through time. To illustrate, imagine that you are observing a steadily accelerating car from a helicopter several thousand feet above a three-lane highway. You can clearly see the road stretching to the horizon. Looking ahead, you notice that the road goes over a small rise and comes to a sudden fork where the lanes split sharply apart. Because the fork is hidden from the driver’s view until the last instant, there will be no time for him or her to change lanes before the road divides. If the car is in the left lane, it must take the left fork; if it’s in the right lane, it must go right. If it’s in the center lane, it will crash into the dividing barrier. Those are the only alternatives. Based on the car’s speed, you can calculate the precise instant it will arrive at the point of no return. How would you alert the driver to the imminent danger?

Such has been the dilemma of the cosmic seers. What is most compelling about their warnings is that many different visionaries have delivered the same message even though they apparently had absolutely no connection with each other. In other words, different seers throughout history have seen the same events coming to a head at exactly the same moment in linear time.

To carry the analogy further: Each of us is the driver of our own car. Since we have free will, we can opt to switch lanes at any time before reaching the fork in the road. According to the received teachings, the choice is simple: you can dedicate your life to the service of self, in which case you attempt to dominate and control others to gain personal power, or you can be in service to others, focusing each thought, word, and deed for the benefit of another being. The first choice (service to self) would put your car in the left lane; the second choice (service to others) equates to the right lane. Opting for neither keeps you locked in the center lane.

The teachings also tell us the consequences of each choice. The Earth, itself a sentient, conscious entity, has already chosen the right lane. Those of us who make the same choice will stay with her and move into the next density, or vibrational level of experience, which many call the golden age of love and peace. Those who choose the negative path (service to self) will be moved to a new planetary home where they can perfect the art of control. The beings that opt for neither fork will simply recycle the entire present human experience, beginning as prehumans who are subject to being preyed upon and controlled by those beings who opt for the negative path.

Before dismissing this as pure metaphysical mishmash, I suggest you consider the words of Blaise Pascal, the renowned French mathematician and philosopher who applied decision theory to the question of the existence of God. The result was the famous Pascal’s Wager, which likens the matter to a yes/no bet – only instead of money, you are risking your eternal soul. According to Pascal, there are two propositions: God exists, and God does not exist. (Notably, Pascal understood God as the Christian God depicted in the Bible, which provides some information about God, but attempts no proof of his existence.) Pascal proposed that before placing your bet, you should consider the four possibilities:

1. If you choose to believe in God, and if God exists, you go to heaven: your gain is infinite.

2. If you choose to believe in God, and if God doesn’t exist, your loss is finite and therefore negligible.

3. If you choose not to believe in God, and if God doesn’t exist, your gain is finite and therefore negligible.

4. If you choose not to believe in God, and if God exists, you will go to hell: your loss is infinite.

Pascal’s notes, which appear in his unfinished treatise Pensées, wrap it all up neatly: “Let us weigh the gain and the loss in wagering that God is. Let us estimate these two chances. If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing. Wager, then, without hesitation that He is.”

I suggest applying the same logic to the possibility of a major shift in 2012. We can only assume that the information is either true or not true. And all four of Pascal’s options apply. For me, the only course of action that resonates with my inner being is to act as if the proposed events and are accurate.

This is similar to having a physician tell you that you have only six months (or in this case six years) to live. Many people who have received such dire news have managed to not only live the most present and exquisite six months of their lives but, because of the palpable shift in their lifestyles, some even reversed their medical condition. The predictions for 2012 are, as it were, giving us just a few more years to live. We can cower through them in fear and denial, or we can accept this as an invitation to live more fully and purposefully than we ever have before.

Many ancient cultures, including the Mayans, predicted global disasters in the year 2012. Some of the predictions have pin pointed the exact date of the climax of these catastrophic events, December 21, 2012. It is believed that the world as we know it will end through natural disasters. It is also believed that this is one of the biggest 2012 government secrets ever kept silent. There are supposed to be secret bunkers put in place by those that govern the countries of the world to save people that have been chosen to survive if this happens. If so, this is a big 2012 government secret.

When scientists and astrologers discovered the meanings of the Mayan calendar, it became clear to them that it ends in the year 2012. This has been translated by many to mean the world will change, in some way, in that year. Many have perceived it to be the end of life on earth because of natural disasters and catastrophic events. On the other hand, there are many that believe that nothing will happen; the planet will just be entering into a different astrological age.

A theory that has been found on the World Wide Web that these events are going to be caused by the newly discovered Planet X. Planet X is the tenth planet in our solar system.

Some believe the new planet is going to orbit around the sun and when it comes back around, it will come close to earth. This will change the earth’s poles and cause natural disasters that may kill everything living. Many believe that the earth’s crust will shift and the land surface of the world will change dramatically.

Some people have stated that the governments of most countries know about this event and are keeping it quiet while preparing to save mankind. There are bunkers built to help preserve mankind by being able to support life for years. Some are saying that the government has already chosen who is to be safeguarded with these bunkers.

These bunkers are not only built to sustain humans, they are also used to store supplies for survival. Items such as medicine, food and water are just a few of the necessities needed to sustain life. Batteries and fuel may be stored for use of electrical devices.

Secret bunkers are being built to store these items and some are ready for supporting life.

SAN FRANCISCO – Williams-Sonoma said Tuesday that its longtime chief, Howard Lester, will retire from the posts of CEO and chairman after 31 years.

After his retirement in May, Lester will continue to advise the company until December 2012 as chairman emeritus, Williams-Sonoma Inc. said Tuesday.

Lester, who is 74, has run the San Francisco company since 1978, when he bought it from founder Chuck Williams and it had four retail stores. It now has more than 600 stores in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico; it also owns the upscale Pottery Barn and West Elm housewares chains.

“Howard has been an outstanding mentor, and he is retiring at a time when the foundation of the company has never been stronger,” Williams-Sonoma President Laura Alber said on a Tuesday conference call with reporters.

The company’s board plans to appoint Alber its new CEO. She joined the company in 1995.

“She is the perfect leader to succeed me,” Lester said.

Alber, who is 41, has been credited with starting the company’s Pottery Barn Kids and PBteen lines and for its expansion into the Middle East.

Alber said Tuesday that the company plans to open four stores in the Middle East this year, with further plans to be determined as they evaluate the performance of those outlets.

Meanwhile, Lester will receive $500,000 per year for consulting on real estate strategy and seasonal products as well as shareholder outreach. And he will get 125,000 shares and cash equal to another 125,000 shares that will vest between now and December 2012.

The CEO also walks away with a $175,000 cash payment for health care benefits plus administrative support and expenses during his time as a consultant.

He also gets a lifetime employee discount at the company’s stores.

Costs associated with Lester’s retirement will result in charges of 3 cents per share in the company’s fourth quarter and 2.5 cents per share in the first quarter of 2010.

This is due to an acceleration in the vesting schedule for 4.6 million stock units and options Lester holds, as well as a grant of roughly $5 million in restricted stock he received Monday related to the company’s 2009 performance.

On Tuesday, the company also reiterated a 2010 and fourth-quarter profit outlook it gave earlier this month.

It expects a fourth-quarter adjusted profit of 69 cents to 74 cents per share on revenue of $1.06 billion to $1.08 billion. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expect 73 cents per share.

For the year, Williams-Sonoma expects earnings of 54 cents to 59 cents per share on revenue of $3.07 billion to $3.09 billion.

It’s human nature. We’re always eager to explore the newest product, especially the ones touted to improve our lives. At the same time, we can be skeptical about new product technologies, and it can be hard to decide what, and whether, to buy. This is certainly the case with energy-saving light bulbs. The Energy Independence and Security Act, passed in December of 2007, started the clock ticking on the end of the inexpensive and reliable incandescent light bulb. While it’s true that a few bulb manufacturers have flirted with the idea of nudging the energy efficiency of Mr. Edison’s classic up enough to meet the law’s requirements, it now appears likely that U.S. consumers will need to convert to 21st century green light bulbs for most uses starting in 2012.

The mainstream media has been full of news about the coming light bulb revolution. In the last week of May alone, both The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times ran high profile articles addressing emerging trends on CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) and LED (Light Emitting Diode) bulbs.

Since they cost more than traditional bulbs, most people buy energy-saving light bulbs for two main reasons: they save money in the long run and they’re better for the environment. Specifically, because green light bulbs use much less energy to produce the same amount of light, they reduce harmful gas emissions from coal-fired power plants (which generate 50% of the electricity used in the United States).

So consumers should immediately replace all their incandescents with energy-saving light bulbs, right? Well, not so fast. With lighting, quality matters especially in our homes where we gather, read, cook, eat, celebrate and entertain. There’s a perception that green light bulbs require sacrificing light quality. Don’t believe it. Many eco-friendly light bulbs cast soft, beautiful light. And no one should feel guilty about not switching out every fixture containing a regular light bulb. Invest first in replacing the bulbs used most frequently. Savings will be bigger and pay back periods shorter with this approach. And truth be told, there are scenarios where the best bulb is the old-fashioned incandescent.

7 Keys to Choosing the Best Green Light Bulbs for Your Home or Office

Choosing from the many energy-saving light bulbs on the market today can be tricky. Gone are the days when all that mattered was bulb wattage and shape.

By keeping these seven simple guidelines in mind, you’ll be on a path to making smart decisions about what to buy to meet your needs for energy-saving light bulbs in this new green age:

1. Pay more, not less – to save money in the long run, your new green light bulbs should be able to last for several thousand hours. If you buy the cheapest ones you can find, the odds are greater that they won’t.

2. Pick your spots – if a fixture is completely enclosed or is lit for less than 15 minutes at a time and less than two hours a day, CFLs are a poor investment. Low energy, mercury-free halogens are available that are worth a look in these situations. Wait until the existing bulb burns out (or hold onto it for later use – see #6).

3. Nobody likes the blues – the bluish light cast by many fluorescent tubes is not appealing to most homeowners. When buying CFLs and LEDs choose “warm white” or “soft white” labels for color that will look pleasingly familiar. Energy-saving light bulbs labeled “cool white,” “natural light,” or “daylight” are blue-hued and best for targeted applications like reading, task lighting and exterior fixtures, not for living areas, atmosphere or accent lighting.

4. Dimming for dummies – most CFL and LED bulbs can’t be used with dimmer switches. Look for green light bulbs that are boldly labeled “dimmable.” And while the industry has made great strides in recent years, most energy-saving light bulbs do not dim as well as traditional incandescent bulbs. However, the big energy savings are compelling for most homeowners. Making the switch to dimmable CFLs or LEDs in a busy family kitchen can be a real money saver, including reduced cooling costs because neither type generates as much heat as incandescents. Last point: the dimmer switch should be compatible with the green light bulbs you buy.

5. Let’s do the twist – spiral or “twister” CFLs are the least expensive type. If these green light bulbs are hidden behind a shade (though not totally enclosed), buying a spiral lamp will cut the payback period versus glass covered CFLs.

6. Stay out of the closet – most closets need short bursts of instantaneous light. This is usually true of powder rooms, basements, attics and garages. Among energy saving light bulbs, CFLs in particular aren’t suited for this purpose. Traditional bulbs (or again, low energy halogens) are best in these scenarios until something better comes along.

7. Innovative, intriguing, expensive – mercury-free LED bulbs are the future of lighting, case closed. These green light bulbs use less electricity than even CFLs and they last 30,000 hours or more. However, current prices per bulb are as high as $100, which means the payback period for most home-based uses is too long to justify the price. If you are curious about this new technology and live in an area with high retail electricity costs, you might consider LED replacement bulbs for one or two fixtures that get a lot of use (6+ hours per day). Re-read Key #1 before you invest in these types of energy-saving light bulbs.

Ignore the Naysayers – Green Light Bulbs Are Here to Stay

One last point: mercury makes CFLs (and fluorescent tubes for that matter) work. Some serious people, including syndicated columnist George Will, say we should avoid energy-saving light bulbs for this reason. We disagree. Coal-fired electricity generation is the largest contributor of mercury to the environment. Through reduced electricity consumption, a single CFL will keep a lot more mercury out of the environment over its lifetime than it contains. Still, releasing any mercury into the environment is a bad idea, so it’s important to recycle CFLs when they stop working. Recycling your used green light bulbs is getting easier all the time. Green light bulbs are here to stay. This is good news for our wallets and our world because the cheapest, cleanest kilowatt of electricity is the one that is never produced in the first place. Become smart enough to buy the right energy-saving light bulbs and don’t look back.
