The timeline of the Mayan Calendar has created an enigmatic riddle. Religion, academics and men of science have studied and pondered for centuries as to why that calendar carefully maps out dates into the second millennium and then stops suddenly and unexpectedly on December 21st, 2012.

Novelists are taking up the torch as speculation increases and theories abound. From the field of science, the observation is purely clinical. On, or about December 21st of 2012, a celestial event will occur that only transpires every 26,000 years: the galaxy will be in total alignment. This may have dire consequences for our weather, and might drastically induce earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis. No one really knows. It’s safe to say the planet has endured previous upheavals and will probably endure once more.

As for the impact on population, again, no one can be certain. In any event, science maintains the Mayan Calendar is based on this 26,000 year cycle and will simply rewind to its beginning.

Many academics have remained neutral regarding their opinions of the 2012 prophecy though they regard the issue as “interesting”. Religions, as they are always wont to do, have extended their predictions as to how the world will end if the 2012 prophecy occurs. As always, the predictions are grim and bloody.

The Bible indicates that there will be a war between good and evil prior to the “end of days”, with Christ’s followers pitted against Satan’s army and he who triumphs taking control of the planet and its people.

A greater hopeful announcement is that humanity would experience the seventh day of formation or the Sabbath Rest. This concept is based on the thinking that The Lord conceived the universe in six days and relaxed on the seventh day. Spiritualists aver that Gods day comprises 26,000 human years. To calculate that, the entire life of earth would not even equal Gods six days would be to conclude that God wove his charm on continuous six days. With imminent commencement of this period on December 21st, 2012, people believe that humanity shall be welcoming this seventh day. This day of rest or Sabbath Rest would usher an era of tranquility for humanity.

Evil and sickness will be deposed and Christ will return

to lead his people. Many espouse the belief that the dead will return to take part in this heavenly reward.

With a little over to years to think about, it will be interesting to see which 2012 prophecy argument comes true.
